What was the client need?
The MOD was integrating the three service logistics organisations into the Defence Logistics Organisation. They are also rolling out the “Smart Procurement Initiative” across the MOD.
What approach was used?
I led the KPMG Consulting Change Management team at DARA (Defence Aviation Repair Agency) where we examined the current communications and change management ability. We implemented recommendations to enhance the ability of the organisation to change quickly from independent, policy driven organisations to integrated, output driven organisation. Working closely with the Chief of Defence Logistics and his Board we also developed values and leadership behaviours which support the business strategy. We provided coaching on an ongoing basis to support the leaders through the change. Key to the continued success of the integration was the leadership commitment to demonstrate new behaviours and their awareness of their need to continue developing.
What was the outcome?
Communications and training strategy in particular helped the DARA to prepare to meet the rapid changes in ways of working. The overall programme of work at the DLO delivered improvements in efficiency and effectiveness and in behaviour change.
