BP Mobil Graduate Recruitment - Recruitment, Assessment and Selection

What was the client need?

The joint venture between BP and Mobil in Eastern Europe in 1999 required the development of a cadre of EuroManagers through a graduate recruitment and training programme. These EuroGraduates would be expected to work in a “city called Europe”.

What approach was used?

As part of a KPMG Consulting team, I led the development of a graduate recruitment and assessment centre implementation team. This involved supporting the BP Mobil project team by providing expertise and coaching in competency profiling, assessment centre design, with particular sensitivity to the management of cultural diversity issues. I designed a bespoke assessment centre and assessor training programme for managers in Eastern Europe and Russia.

What was the outcome?

The pilot Assessment Centres were seen as very successful despite major intercultural issues arising. The BP Mobil EuroGraduate programme was cancelled in its first year due to a shift in business strategy and market changes.
