What was the client need?
The BBC needed to improve the way it managed the career paths of its Senior Leaders and Directors. On many occasions, Senior Leaders would step out of their line management roles to lead specific projects, then to be met with no role to return to upon project completion. This formed part of the BBC’s new succession management approach, led by the Head of Organisation Development.
What approach was used?
As there had been no previous formal executive assessment for the purpose of managing talent in the BBC, I developed an entirely new Executive Profiling process. This involved face-to-face 360 feedback data collection from Senior Leaders, psychometric assessment and feedback and coaching for the Leader involved. The process culminated in a decision making session to plan actions for the participant involving the BBC Director responsible for their next move.
What was the outcome?
After piloting the new process, the feedback from participants and Board level directors was very positive. More importantly, the process and Executive Profiling reports facilitated decision making for valued, experienced BBC Senior Leaders. I then trained and coached two of the Senior Organisational Psychologists in my team to deliver this service on a limited basis across the BBC, with very positive reactions from the Directors involved.
